Behind every bottle of Suffolk wine is a story of people, place and passion. From family-run vineyards and pioneering producers to award-winning estates, the Suffolk Wine Trail showcases the diversity of the county's growing wine scene.

Each vineyard offers something different, whether that's a guided tour among the vines, a tasting overlooking the countryside or the chance to meet the people crafting the wines. Stretching from the Stour Valley and Shotley Peninsula to the landscapes around Bury St Edmunds and Halesworth, these vineyards invite you to discover the character, heritage and innovation that make Suffolk such an exciting destination for English wine.

ARK Wines

Close to Sudbury in the Stour Valley, ARK Wines brings an experimental spirit to Suffolk winemaking. Producing small-batch, unfiltered and vegan wines, ARK is known for distinctive bottles that show the variety and ambition of the county’s emerging wine scene. Look out for wines including Chardonnay Bacchus and Pinot Noir, and use your visit as a chance to discover a bold, contemporary side of English wine in the Suffolk countryside.

Burnt House Vineyard

Just outside Stowmarket, Burnt House Vineyard combines generations of farming heritage with modern viticulture. Its wines include Burnt House Bacchus, a bright expression of one of England’s best-known grape varieties. The vineyard sits close to local food and heritage attractions, making it a natural stop for visitors planning a weekend around food, farming stories and countryside experiences in the heart of Suffolk.

Coopers Croft Vineyard

Family-run Coopers Croft Vineyard offers a more intimate vineyard experience in the countryside south of Bury St. Edmunds. Every vine is tended by hand, giving the wines a strong sense of care and place. Known for award-winning wines, including its 2021 rosé fizz, Coopers Croft is a lovely choice for visitors who want to meet passionate producers and discover the smaller-scale, personal side of Suffolk wine.

Giffords Hall Vineyard

Set just outside Sudbury, Giffords Hall Vineyard is one of the Suffolk Wine Trail’s most established names. The vineyard’s position in the Stour Valley gives its wines a distinctive character, with the riverbed and surrounding landscape helping shape what is grown here. Visitors can discover a broad range of wines, including Pink Blush Rosé and Brut Reserve NV sparkling wine, while exploring a vineyard with a strong sense of place and history.

Hawkswood Vineyard

East of Bury St Edmunds, Hawkswood Vineyard is full of personality. Run by Michael and Irene, who personally tend the vines, craft the wine and host visitors, it offers the kind of meet-the-maker experience that makes a vineyard visit memorable. Hawkswood won a National Wine GB Gold for its 2023 Pinot Rose and over the last five years has collected no less than ten national awards for their wines. The vineyard is also known for its unusual resident: a pet hawk. Expect a warm welcome and a very Suffolk story.

Shotley Vineyard

On the Shotley Peninsula, Shotley Vineyard offers wide views across the River Orwell and a peaceful setting. The vineyard grows lesser-known grape varieties alongside more familiar names, producing wines with a distinctive local character. Visitors can enjoy experiences such as afternoon tea with a glass of sparkling wine, making Shotley a strong choice for a slower day out in the south of the county.

Valley Farm Vineyards

Near Halesworth and inland from Southwold, Valley Farm Vineyards is one of the northernmost stops on the trail. Mature vines produce single-estate wines, including Madeleine Angevine 2022, and guided tours take visitors among the vineyard’s 3,000 vines. For a full wine weekend, Valley Farm also offers on-site accommodation at the Cabin-in-the-Vines, placing guests right in the heart of the vineyard landscape.

Wyken Vineyards

East of Bury St Edmunds, Wyken Vineyards sits within a 1,200-acre farm and brings together wine, food, shopping and heritage in one place. Visitors can explore the vineyard, visit the country store and enjoy the atmosphere of a converted medieval barn, with the estate also home to a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. One of Suffolk’s pioneer vineyards, Wyken produces sparkling Wyken Moonshine and reflects generations of farming tradition.
