Aldeburgh Museum

Aldeburgh Museum is housed in the iconic Grade 1 Listed, 16thC, timber framed Moot Hall which is also home to the Town Council. The museum which has been refurbished, displays artefacts about the rich and diverse history of Aldeburgh, assisted by digital and manual displays and interactives.

The museum tells of Aldeburgh's rich and varied history with digital and manual displays. Find out how the town became a thriving fishing and shipbuilding centre. Explore its development as a seaside resort and artists' retreat and learn about the Moot Hall, a Tudor building that is still in use today for local governance. The collection provide a unique insight into the lives of the people of Aldeburgh; from Anglo-Saxons to Victorians, medieval witch trials. Discover Aldeburgh's famous people, such as the first female Doctor, surgeon and mayor in Britain. The museum collection is in the first floor council chamber and the museum room on the ground floor. Entry to the museum is via the external staircase directly into the Council Chamber, which is still in use by the Town Council.
