Settle into Scenic East Suffolk
Ease into East Suffolk with an afternoon arrival. Whether you are staying close to Framlingham or Halesworth, head into town for a wander before dinner and explore independent shops and historic streets. Marvel at Framlingham’s views of the castle, or soak up Halesworth’s preserved 16th-century architecture. Maintain the relaxed pace and book a table locally, before heading back to settle into your accommodation to plan your vineyard timings for the next day.
Walk the walls of Framlingham Castle
Start your day with one of Suffolk’s great heritage landmarks. Framlingham Castle sits within a beautiful parkland setting, with spectacular views across the surrounding Suffolk landscape.
Walk the castle walls, explore its history and take in the views that stretch across the countryside. The castle is also famously associated with local singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who drew inspiration from his hometown for his song Castle on the Hill.
If you are visiting on a Saturday, make time for Framlingham’s popular market, where local traders offer everything from fresh produce and artisan food to gifts. Take a final taste of Suffolk
After your vineyard visit, make time for one final taste of East Suffolk at Fen Farm Dairy in nearby Bungay. Home of Baron Bigod cheese and a range of handmade dairy products, the farm shop is a great place to pick up something delicious for the journey home, from artisan cheese and butter to fresh bread, pastries and other local produce.
Stop for a coffee or pick up something for lunch before browsing the shelves for Suffolk-made treats to take home. If you time your visit for around 3pm, you may even catch the dairy herd lining up for milking.
With your bags full of local produce, you can then make your way home or extend the journey towards the coast. Depending on your route and how much time you have, Southwold, Snape or Aldeburgh all offer an easy way to add a final breath of Suffolk countryside or coast to your weekend.
