About Autumn Landscapes – Textile Workshop
As the colours shift and the days soften, join us at the Mill for a creative day of slow stitching and rich textures, inspired by the beauty of early autumn. With golden grasses, seed heads, rustling leaves and soft skies reflected in the mill pond, the surrounding landscape offers perfect inspiration.
Led by experienced textile artist Dorothy Ronaldson, this workshop focuses on capturing the depth and warmth of autumn using fabric collage and hand embroidery. You’ll learn a range of stitches—bullion and French knots, fly stitch, feather stitch, chain stitch, running stitch, and whipped stitch—to build organic texture and movement in your own stitched landscape.
You’ll also experiment with fabric paints and mark-making on a selection of silks and textiles, including gorgeous Sudbury silk, to create a palette of warm ochres, mossy greens, berry reds, and burnished golds.
What’s included: - Painted and plain fabrics (mostly silk) - Firm iron-on interfacing - Sheer ribbons - Angelina fibres for texture and shimmer - Embroidery threads (fine perle, stranded, sateen) - Fabric paints, brushes, and droppers
What to bring: - Fabric and thread cutting scissors - Medium-size Crewel and Milliners needles (Available locally from Lingards in Sudbury or online.)
This workshop is perfect for those with a bit of stitching experience and a love of textiles, colour and seasonal change. You'll leave with a uniquely personal piece and plenty of ideas to explore further.
