About Autumn Equinox at Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum

Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum is delighted to confirm that it is holding a appreciation of the Moon, and its importance to the Mill, over the autumn equinox this September. The Tide Mill is driven by the tides which are a direct consequence of the Moon. Astronomical events like equinoxes (the official astronomical start of autumn) and solstices are great times to draw attention to, and appreciate, the Moon which causes them.

Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum is planning to show its appreciation of the Moon over the weekend Fri 25– Sun 27 Sept.

Fri and Sat from dark to 10pm - projecting images of the Moon from the recent Artemis II NASA flypast as well as footage of how the Mill harnesses the renewable energy of Moon’s gravity on tides to mill flour. Other visuals of the Mill and related video will be shown
Fri 25 Sept onwards - The Museum will have a small from ‘Moon to flour’ display highlighting the reasons for, and types of tides and how it uses them to mill flour. It will also cover some of the threats to the Mill from changing weather.
Fri 25 – 27 Sun from dark to 10pm - The Mill has also acquired an illuminated 3m inflatable Moon, which, if the weather allows, will bring the Moon back to Earth!
Fri 25 Sept onwards - The above coincides with the separate Woodbridge Ambient Music Festival which is starting at the same time and running many events throughout Woodbridge that will add a beautiful ‘ambient’ feel.

The Museum is very grateful to East Suffolk Council, who’s grant has made the projections possible.
