About A Field Study: Documenting Four Seasons Exhibition
A Field Study: Documenting Four Seasons Rowan Collinson. June Artist in Residence at Mill Tye Gallery This June, Rowan Collinson presents A Field Study: documenting four seasons at Mill Tye Gallery — a quietly compelling exploration of landscape, time and ecological change.
Working as June’s Artist in Residence, Collinson brings a deeply reflective body of work rooted in sustained observation of a single field near her home. Over the course of a year, she has documented its subtle transformations — shifts in light, weather, growth and decay — revealing the landscape not as a static scene, but as a living, evolving environment shaped by seasonal rhythms.
Rejecting spectacle in favour of intimacy, Collinson’s practice invites viewers to slow down and look more closely. Her work bridges digital photography with sustainable analogue processes, incorporating natural materials gathered directly from the field and its surrounding hedgerows. This thoughtful integration of place and process creates a tangible connection between the land and the images themselves.
Presented as a cohesive series, the photographs form a visual cycle — reflecting both the enduring presence of the landscape and the fleeting moments that define it. The exhibition coincides with Suffolk Open Studios, with Collinson working on-site at the gallery throughout the Open Studios weekends.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist, gain insight into her process, and experience the work in dialogue with its making. Alongside the exhibition, Mill Tye Gallery will host a programme of workshops and informal drop-in activities, encouraging visitors to engage more deeply with themes of ecology, materiality and creative practice.
