About Five Acre Barn

Combining the best of both worlds, Five Acre Barn enjoys a quiet rural location on the very edge of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, yet just a short walk from the beautiful coastline and the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Thorpeness.

Considered to be one of the UK’s top B&Bs by The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times and Conde Nast Traveller, Five Acre Barn is centred around a nineteenth century barn attached to a shingle-clad, zig zag extension, judged to be one of the top buildings of 2018 by the RIBA.
Bedrooms are housed within the extension, along a wide gallery area. The building has a contemporary, Scandi feeling with white walls, concrete floors and lots of ply – softened by eclectic art and ceramics. Each of the five rooms enjoys a dramatic, light-filled full height space with access into the garden and an individual decking area on which to while away the day. Rooms one to four have the beds on a plywood mezzanine floor whilst room five, all on one floor, is fully accessible.
The Barn is for the sole use of guests and has a stylish mid-century vibe. Listen to music on our Sonos system, read a book or enjoy a drink from the honesty bar. Breakfast is served here (or outside if sunny) and is a sociable and tasty affair. You can choose from a long menu including Full English, Eggs Benedict and Latkes, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.
As our name suggests, we are set within five acres of garden and woodland. Relax on your own deck or go and check out the different garden ‘rooms’ – whether cottage, gravel, grass or Japanese-inspired gardens. Wildlife lovers will enjoy the dawn chorus (and occasionally the sound of Bitterns booming) and if you are lucky enough you might catch sight of Muntjac deer, woodpeckers or even slow worms. Dog lovers will love it too as all our rooms are ‘dog friendly’.
You can stay with us either for ‘bed and breakfast’ or take over the whole place to enjoy with your family and friends (we can comfortably sleep ten to twelve). We can even provide an amazing ‘personal chef’ if you are not in the mood to cook!
