The Suffolk Wine Trail takes you through our most exciting vineyards

A new wine region is taking shape in Suffolk, where centuries of agricultural expertise are helping cultivate some of England's most exciting wines.

Suffolk has a strong farming history and has become the natural home of exceptional food and drink. Now a new generation of vineyards has emerged alongside established producers, offering visitors an increasingly diverse range of wines, tours and tasting experiences.

Eight independent vineyards now form the heart of the Suffolk Wine Trail, each bringing its own character and helping showcase a fresh side of the county to visitors. You can explore the guide and discover vineyards in this interactive map and visitor guide, to plan weekend breaks at your own pace.

What to expect

A crisp glass of 2023 Bacchus, winner of a Wine GB National Silver Award four out of the last five years, while meeting Michael and Irene and their pet hawk at the multi-award winning Hawkswood Vineyard, where the ‘retired’ pair personally tend their vines, craft their wine and run tours.

Sampling award-winning, small batch, unfiltered and vegan wines at ARK Wines, where experimental winemaking in the Stour Valley has produced standout vintages including Ripasso Noir, Chardonnay Bacchus and Pinot Noir.

Visit the converted medieval barn at the lively Wyken Vineyards, where vineyard, Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant and country store sit within a 1,200 acre farm. One of Suffolk’s pioneer vineyards, its sparkling Wyken Moonshine is produced by the fifth generation of a farming family with deep roots in the county.

Combine a visit to the UK’s only Food Museum with small plates, grazing boards and wines from nearby Burnt House Vineyard, where generations of farming heritage meet modern viticulture to create distinctive wines, such as the vibrant Burnt House Bacchus.

Take in the views across the River Orwell at Shotley Vineyard, where lesser-known grape varieties thrive and visitors can enjoy afternoon tea with a glass of the vineyard's 2024 sparkling wine, produced using the Charmat method, made from Chardonnay, Auxerrois, Seyval Blanc and Reichensteiner grapes.

Head inland from Southwold to Valley Farm Vineyards, where mature vines produce high-quality single-estate wines, including the elegant Madeleine Angevine 2022. Stay in onsite accommodation, the Cabin-in-the-Vines, before exploring the vineyard's 3,000 vines on a guided tour.

Experience the unique influence of the Stour Valley riverbed at Giffords Hall, which produces a wide range of wines including its Gold Award winning Bacchus and best-selling Brut Reserve NV sparkling wine, a house-blend sparkling wine from barrel-aged reserves.

Enjoy a more intimate vineyard experience at family-run Coopers Croft Vineyard, where every vine is tended by hand to produce award-winning wines, including its acclaimed 2021 rosé fizz.

Tours and tastings are available throughout the year across all vineyards, although opening hours vary seasonally. Advance booking is recommended.
